Docent & Volunteer Educator Support
Volunteer educators are often on the frontlines of community engagement and learning at organizations. As guides and teachers, they are the bridge between the public’s understanding of an organization and its mission, values, and goals.
We offer support and training for organizations to help their volunteers feel empowered and effective in how they connect with audiences and advance the organization's outreach goals.
Consider us your coach, guide, educator, and strategist. We will help you develop an effective educational plan and help docents develop a pedagogical toolbox with confidence.
The needs of each organization are different and our support can be tailored to take into account your specific goals.
CUSTOMIZE YOUR EXPERIENCE:
Choose between trainings for volunteers or strategic support, or combine both as fits your needs
Choose from one or more strategies: community-centered engagement, multi-sensory pedagogies, Visual Thinking Strategies adapted for multi-sensory learning (learn more about VTS in this article by co-founder Mike Murawski), place-based learning
Choose preferred trainings format (video meeting, in-person classroom, or onsite )
Classroom Partnerships & Homeschool Workshops
Place-based learning is a pedagogical approach that focuses on connections to local heritage, cultures, landscapes, opportunities and experiences. It emphasizes experiential learning and can help students develop a stronger relationship with the environment and their community.
Project-based learning is a student centered learning method that encourages students to problem solve through real world challenges. It can help students learn about a topic in greater depth and supports critical thinking and collaboration skills.
Our school and classroom partnerships focus on creative ways to bring these approaches together to enhance student learning in meaningful ways.
Each kind of classroom partnership is custom tailored to support the educator’s objectives and larger goals. It can range from a single workshop to a year-long partnership collaboration. Whatever your goals, let us help make them a reality.
CUSTOMIZE YOUR EXPERIENCE:
Choose preferred workshop format (virtual, classroom, outdoors)
Choose themes and focus: maps & map making, maps as stories, exploring public monuments/art, nature journaling, native plant drawings, or another topic through consultation
Combine with co-creation to enhance experience that concludes with a larger community project (such as campus or regional map or learning guide featuring research and drawings by students)
Choose length of partnership
