Monument Lab Field Trip: Museums

Introducing the Monument Lab Field Trip Guide for Museums, a hands-on activity guide created in partnership with Philadelphia based public art and history non-profit, Monument Lab, created in consultation with museum curator and “Museums are Not Neutral” co-producer La Tanya Autry as a tool to explore, engage with, question, and examine museums.

Free and downloadable, this 10-page hands-on guide is designed to be used by any age in any location or online using search tools.

It features activities that encourage you to reflect on questions related to the museum experience - including questions of learning, labor, accessibility, power, and function in all kinds of museum institutions. The Field Trip Guide also invites you to reimagine museums in new ways.

Some of the key features of this guide include:

  • self-guided activities designed to help you investigate museums

  • activities that encourage you to propose your own ideas for making museums more accessible and less exclusive spaces

  • activities designed to encourage reflection, critical thinking, and interrogation skills in every part of a museum visit, beginning outside the space.

Use this guide on a family visit, for school field trips, in college classes, or on any kind of visit to a museum.
