Portland Parks & Recreation: Summer Nature Camp Activity Sheets

The Summer Camp Kids Activity Sheets are a series of double-sided, place-based activity sheets created specifically younger elementary kids. They were commissioned by Portland Parks & Recreation for use by camp counselors in Portland Parks & Recreation Summer Nature Camp Programming, beginning in 2021.

The 2021 Summer Camp Program was held in six different locations around the city of Portland, including Hoyt Arboretum, Powell Butte Nature Park, Mt Tabor Park, Oaks Bottom Wetland, Pier Park, and Whitaker Ponds Natural Area, and featured nine different weekly camp themes. Each theme focused on a different facet of the outdoor world, such as its plants, invertebrates, trees, mammals, or birds.

Each of the activity sheets was designed to correspond with these themes, and was developed with the six locations in mind. The activity sheets focused on specific, place-based, prompts that could be used by camp counselors on exploratory hikes or walks.

The activity sheets are illustrated in black and white to encourage coloring by kids, and for easy and affordable printing.
